Created for a school movie submission. Rendered, composited and saved in Blender 2.45.
You can share this around as much as you like, just please leave the little tag at the end of it on. ^^ Thanks.
Sun:
Icosphere primitive with shadeless material and 5 generated textures. Two are procedural (change over time). Secondary identical mesh used as main glow effect with halo material. Outer halo is a single halo from a third object in the core of the sun.
Trails:
Alpha and size animated particle effects. Affected by object speed.
Animation:
Carefully tweaked paths with some object rotation animation. A lot of camera work.
Node composite:
Ranged deconvolution (light bloom) and vector blur. Blur decreased at certain points.
Time to create: Animation took 2 days approx. 3P-a Shadow made previously. See: [link] [link]
Time to render: About 2 hours all up, many rendering/video composite sessions.
HOLY SHIT! sorry for the language but that is how shocked i am, that is about the best thing i saw, you made it ALL in Blender? if not, what other programs?

3D is not the addition but the multiplication of a dimension. Think voxels. A 1024*800 picture of 819200 pixels becomes a 1024*800*1024 image of 838860800 voxels. Don't underestimate it.
In my opinion, it's the best program out there in all regards.
Save the internal renderer, which could be a little better in the global illumination/caustics scene, but superfast raytracing is something I can't live without.

A collection of the most beautiful and amazing square photographs I found among my favourites. Please have a look and give these artists the attention they deserve!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More

I'm not a fan of Blender's Stars system, but you pulled it off rather well
